Week 15

Welcome to the first newsletter of the Cox family baby journey. I apologize for the delay in getting this out… it’s been a busy couple of weeks. We wanted to make sure that everyone got updates since we are all scattered to the winds. First off… yes, Jenny is pregnant. It’s week 15 officially, she is through the first trimester, baby is growing well.

Ultrasounds

Yes, Marc was there when I “conceived.” We had IVF. Unfortunately, due to work, that’s the only appointment he has been able to be there for in person.

7 Weeks: Implantation verification ultrasound from March 11th (Marc was virtual for that visit). Baby’s heart rate was 121. This was where I graduated from my Fertility doctor to an Obstetrician. Do you have any idea how difficult it is to be sick during that transition? Ugh, no one wants to touch you.

9 Weeks: Next up March 31st, my first visit with my new Obstetrician. It’s weird when you walk in and the provider is all like, “oh, I’ve seen your name, you refer patients to me.” Anyhoo… Heart rate at 167. 13 weeks: my scary appointment. For those of you that know, this was the appointment where I lost my first pregnancy. My Ultrasound tech was great. She started by finding the heartbeat at 168. Then I got to see body parts. Length of baby is 8.6 cm.

Residency

For those who didn’t know, Jenny has been applying for residency/fellowships in Critical Care Medicine. She is thrilled to tell you that she was accepted to the UPMC program. We will be relocating to Pittsburgh at the end of June for a Start date of my yearlong residency on July 5th. She is beyond thrilled for this opportunity. This is one of the locations she will be working at. The only bad thing… the 50% pay cut she will be taking.

Marc in Wisconsin

Marc will continue to work his locum job in Wisconsin. He will be taking time off for the birth of baby cox and they will be looking for a location for him to transition to when his current contract is up in November.

The Real Owners of the House

Pixie and Nala continue to dominate… of course. They will be taking a hiatus from each other as Nala will be staying with Marc in Wausau and Pixie will travel with Jenny to Pittsburgh. This should be interesting… as always.

Dragonhold

Jenny flew down and had a wonderful weekend in Fayetteville for the Dogwood Festival in April! It was one of her best weekends ever… all by herself! 368 candles sold! She was sad she missed some of you who are still in Fayetteville. She is also terribly sad to let everyone know that the Fort Bragg renaissance festival has been discontinued. She is not sure right now how the residency or pregnancy will affect her show schedule for 2022. It should be interesting, regardless.

Top Questions I’ve been asked so far

  1. How are your symptoms?
I haven’t actually had too many. No nausea (As opposed to the last time I was pregnant). I attribute this to the super healthy eating I have been doing. No gluten, no processed food, minimal eating out. The only acid reflux I had was after our cruise when my diet drastically changed for a week. The only real complaint I have is the constipation. It comes from progesterone’s effect on the body and the slowing of the GI tract. Managing it with diet and lifestyle…
  2. Do you know the sex?
Yes, we have had all the testing and it’s a Boy. This will be interested because we were prepared for Karma to give Marc a girl.
  3. Where are you registered? What do you need?
I’m still working on it and I don’t know. I have put together a list of what we have but I just haven’t had a lot of time to sit down and do a registry.
  4. Can I come visit?
It depends. We are limited on time here together and plan on spending the few weekends we have left together. We are happy to have people visit, just make sure you talk to us first. As far as when Jenny delivers and the plans, we haven’t had the chance to sit down and discuss what we want. While we are happy to have people come and visit we may take the first few days to just be together and recover. At this time it will just be Marc and Jenny in the delivery room.
  5. Can I tell people?
Yes, you can, please feel free to forward this to people who want the updates. Keep in mind that we are both busy and if we haven’t told/updated/pulled you into the information it isn’t because we don’t love/think about/want you to know… it’s more likely that we are just really busy.
  6. A residency and a baby?!
You know Jenny… We are planning on hiring a nanny due to the hours of our jobs. This would have happened regardless of the residency. If Jenny has learned anything over the last few years it’s that there is never a good time for something and that if you want it, to move forward with it and trust the universe will make everything turn out just like it’s supposed to.
  7. What have you been craving?
Nothing really. If I don’t see it I don’t think about it. Maybe more sleep and time…
